The MacBook has always run too hot for my liking, but here in southern UK it is not very warm so maybe that helps :-) Recently I bought a laptop cooler with its own fans, for the laptop to sit on. Useful for extended 100% CPU jobs that definitely did regularly crash it. Before that, I just used to elevate the laptop to make room underneath for air to circulate and cool it, for example I put the edges of some books there, one at each end, underneath. I am less impressed with Apple design than I expected... I have a macbook pro mid 2010.before this upgrade every thing in my win7(64) was ok. after that black screen errors began.
