DNxHD vs Cineform for Non-Standard Format in Sony Vegas 9.0e (64-bit)

Summary:

  • Cineform copes nicely with non-standard formats but DNxHD does not.

Experiment Details:

  • Project & Render:
    • YouTube Upload Format (853×480 25p)
      • FStop competition > Intro 009.veg (853×480 25p)
    • Render:
      • QuickTime 7 > DNxHD (Expt 853×480, 25p, 1:1, 24bpp (8 bits per colour), Quality 50% (defaut), Levels RGB (not 709), Alpha none, Resolution 1080i/59.94 DNxHD 145 8-bit) +Audio 48K 16bit Stereo.  A naive initial choice…
      • DNxHD 720p25-60 (RGB, None).  Closer – but far from exact – match to the requirement.
  • Result:
    • FileSize:
      • AVI-Cineform (1080 50i) 631MB
      • MOV-DNxHD (1080i/59.94): 751MB.
      • MOV-DNxHD (720p25): 380MB.
    • Levels
      • Correct by eye.
    • Detail:
      • Blurrier & pixel-shift / zoom wrt Cineform
