Basically it won’t work on my MacBook Pro (2009) with Windows 7 running under Boot Camp (3.3). I guess Boot Camp doesn’t make sufficient of the GPU’s capability available.
Steps:
- Downloaded, extracted and ran installer for DaVinci Resolve LITE 8.2 for Windows.
- Prompt:
- <<<
- In order to install Resolve you must install these components:
- NVIDIA CUDA Toolkit v4.0.17
- PostgreSQL 9.0.4.1
- Visual C++ 2010 x64 Redistributable
- QuickTime 7.70.80.34 (Installed)
- {I assume that means it is already installed on my system}
- DaVinci Resolve 8.2.0b_lite.084
- Blackmagic Design Desktop Video 8.6.1.0
- >>>
- I clicked [Install]
- DaVinci Resolve itself was installed to:
- [ C:\Program Files\Blackmagic Design\DaVinci Resolve\ ]
- Then it asked <<Would you like to install this device software?>>:
- Name: Blackmagic Design Sound, video and game …
- Publisher: Blackmagic Design Inc.
- I said “yes”
- In response, it popped-up some [cmd.exe] windows within which several messages indicating <<No rules matched>> came up. That worries me slightly…
- Then the closing dialog (only for Resolve itself):
- Completed the DaVinci Resolve Setup Wizard
- Prompt: <<Would you like to install this device software?
- Name: Blackmagic Design Sound, video and game …
- Publisher: Blackmagic Design Inc.
- {Worrying – I saw that same thing earlier…}
- In fact it prompted the same thing several times.
- So eventually I checked the “Always trust Blackmagic…” option.
- Finally it prompted for (Windows) system restart.
- (Restarted)
- Prompted me whether I wanted to install BMDStreamingServer
- Said Yes
- Asked <<Do you want to allow … <DaVinci Resolve> … to make changes to this computer>>
- Said Yes
- Complained: <<A newer version Resolve is already installed, please uninstall it in Control Panel first>>
- I ran it anyway
- Saw a brief popup window saying something like <<Database not responding>>
- Resolve: Config screen:
- WARNING: No CUDA Acceleration Hardware Detected!
- Please quit Resolve and install a CUDAaccelerated GPU card or update your CUDA software driver to the latest version before continuing to use Resolve.
- (clicked OK)
- Prompt: DaVinci Resolve Urgent Message: Chassis 1: GPU CONFIG ERROR: No CUDA boards available
- (clicked OK)
- Prompt: DaVinci Resolve Urgent Message: Quick Time Decoder initialization failed.
- (Clicked OK)
- WARNING: No CUDA Acceleration Hardware Detected!
- Exited Resolve.
- Further continuation with it seems likely to be unproductive. I have better things to do with my time than try to coax a possibly beta version software to work outside its design basis.
- I could never rely on it for anything serious.

- I’ll stick with using the Mac version I already installed on the Mac OS side of the MBP.
